January is Learn to Ski/Ride Month and there's no better place to learn than Beaver Creek.  Gently sloping blues and one of the best ski schools in the country make this resort perfect for beginners.  If you've been thinking about trying out some skis or a snowboard, now is the time.  Make learning to ski/ride a New Year's resolution that will turn in to a lifelong memory.

3-Day First Time Series: Lesson-Beginner/Lift $300

3-Day First Time Series: Lesson-Beginner/Lift/Rental $426

Perfect for beginners
Beaver Creek has 345 acres of beginner terrain.  The green runs, like Piece O' Cake, are wide and groomed.  You don't have to worry about overcrowded runs or long lift lines.  Instead, you can focus on your turns and listen to tips from your world-class instructor.  Beaver Creek gets an average annual snowfall of 310 inches -- and that's good news for all ability levels.  Be sure to check the weather forecast and the Beaver Creek snow report before you hit the slopes.

Lessons
Beaver Creek has great deals for adults who want to learn to ski/ride.  The 3-Day First Time Series includes lessons, lift ticket, and rental. You can enjoy the day knowing your kids are in great hands, and even stop by The Ranch to get a sneak peek at your child's progress. The Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard School has a private gondola called the Buckaroo Express.  Lessons are tailored to age and ability level, and the food at lunchtime is healthy, organic, and delicious.  Be sure to reconvene at 3 o'clock for a warm, fresh-baked, chocolate chip cookie in the village.

Tips for first time skiers/riders
I asked some lifelong snow enthusiasts what advice they had for "never evers."  The most common responses were: Wear sunscreen and lip balm.  Colorado gets a lot of sun, which the snow reflects.  Honestly, Lindsey Vonn is probably the only person who can make a goggle burn look good.  Invest in some high-quality socks.  White cotton socks are blisters and cold feet waiting to happen.   Be sure to drink water and hydrate throughout the day, the summit elevation at Beaver Creek is 11, 440 feet.  Dress in layers. You can always take one off it you get too warm.  Good gloves, goggles, and a hat are a must.   Rent your helmet and equipment online and pick up your rentals slope-side.  Lastly, here are some great tips for avoiding traffic on I-70.

Most importantly, enjoy yourself.  You only get to learn once.
