Celebrate Thanksgiving in Vail

Thanksgiving is such a special holiday -- a time for friends and family to share a meal and enjoy each other's company.  If you love sliding on snow, there's no better way to enjoy each other this Thanksgiving than linking some turns on Vail Mountain

Thanks to the hard work of Vail's snowmaking operations and Mother Nature, you and yours can already link turns on some of my favorite front side runs including Lodgepole, Columbine and Bear Tree.  If you haven't made it up yet, check out some photos from Vail's opening day.

Vail is huge.  With 5,289 total skiable acres, guests have endless opportunities to enjoy every type of terrain imaginable.  Even if you've been coming to Vail for years, there's a chance you haven't seen it all.  And starting tomorrow at 9 a.m the Avanti Express lift (#2) will open, giving everyone celebrating Thanksgiving in Vail a chance to ski and ride one of the best spots on the mountain.

To access the Avanti Express lift from Vail Village, I hop on the Vista Bahn to mid-Vail. Then I ride Lion's Way to Avanti and head down to the bottom of the lift.  If I'm in Lionshead, I jump on the Born Free Express (#8) and ride Cub's Way to the bottom of the lift.

Chair 2 is a high speed quad so you'll be getting off the lift in no time.   But before you start your run, be sure to get a few EpicMix Photos taken at the top of the chair with the breathtaking Mount of the Holy Cross as your backdrop.

If this year's Thanksgiving revelry includes a day at Vail, you'll be celebrating on over 300 acres of terrain from 21 trails accessed by the following lifts:

  • Avanti Express lift (#2)
  • Born Free Express lift (#8)
  • Gopher Hill lift (#12)
  • Little Eagle lift (#15)
  • Vista Bahn Express lift (#16)
  • Eagle Bahn Gondola (#19)

In addition to the amazing runs that will be open, skiers and riders can enjoy a variety of terrain park features on Born Free.  Before you head out, be sure to check Vail's website for any additional terrain that may open weather permitting.  Happy Thanksgiving!
